Here’s another short Youtube Video I found. The originator, briansredd, does a great job of documenting the steps taken to build this great little wooden playhouse for his daughter. He did a fantastic job, and you can see the detail that went into it. Check it out and you may find a few ideas for your wooden playhouse. If you are still stuck for ideas for any woodworking project, including a wooden playhouse for your kids click here for a heap of ideas !
So you’ve chosen your location and the type of wood you’ll be using for your wooden playhouse. The next most important step is to make sure you have the right tools. Just like my previous post about choosing the right wood type, this post will not be going into specifics (ie brand names, etc), as the right tools can be fairly cheap, or unbelievably expensive! In the case of tools, you really do get what you pay for. If you decide to go cheap and nasty, you may be making a few trips back to the hardware store to buy replacements. If you go expensive, your costs will be blown out of the water! Do you need to spend $500 on that tool that you may only use once or twice a year, or will the $150 version be enough? Finding the median is very important.
Now that you have decided on the design of your children’s wooden playhouse and where you will build it, you need to consider the type of wood that you will use. Not all woods are the same ! Some types are easier to work with than others, some types may look better than others, and some types will be a lot cheaper to build with than others.
If you are one of the thousands of parents around the world who decide to build their children a wooden playhouse, you may be wrapped up in the excitement that comes with it. Once your children are aware of your intentions and want to help plan it with you, the excitement only grows. However, it is at this stage, or even before it, that you should take a step back and consider this important factor that will go into designing and building your wooden playhouse.
With this first factor, you may think to yourself, “I’m not trying to buy and investment property! It’s only a wooden playhouse for my kids!”. True, the context of this factor is obviously different to real estate investment, but consider the following:
Here’s a video I found on Youtube that shows the process taken to build a playhouse. It took approximately 5 weeks to build. In all, it cost less than $1400 to make, using over 200 nails and 300 woodscrews, bolts etc.
These days, children have become much more sedentary than previous generations. Some of the reasons for this have been the widespread availability of video games (ie Wii, PS3, etc), the Internet and even remote controls have all played a part in keeping kids from exercising. One of the best ways to get kids outside and KEEP them outside (besides locking the doors!) is to construct a playhouse for them, and the best choice is to build a wooden playhouse.
Welcome to Wooden Playhouse Info and its first post. This blog may be the answer for when your child (or children!) came to you and said, “Can you build us a wooden playhouse….PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE ???” (cue the ‘Bambi eyes’ ). Or, it may be for those who already tried to build a wooden playhouse, but couldn’t finish it (c’mon..we’ve ALL had projects that never seemed to get finished !;-) . It really doesn’t matter if you’ve only experiences wooden playhouse kits, or built one entirely from scratch…you may find what you’re looking for here !
Hi ! I'm Doug, and I'm a devoted father and husband who is a keen woodworker. I enjoy tackling new woodworking projects, but I have a keen interest in wooden playhouses. My kids LOVE their wooden playhouse so much, it's hard to get them to come inside at all!
I made this blog as a way of trying to find out who else enjoys this hobby, as well as other wood-related ones.
I've found a great product that gives me a seemingly endless supply of ideas for various woodworking projects, both inside the home and outside. Take a look at the "My recommendations" section for products that will help you with all your projects.
